VOC Concentrators
If you work in the automotive, printing, coating, electronics, or
pharmaceutical industries, you already know about the environmental
regulations that require 95-99% removal of volatile organic compounds
(VOC) and hazardous air pollutants (HAP) compounds from air vent streams.
But do you know that UOP’s line of HiSiv adsorbents provides
a better way to capture and concentrate VOC and HAP compounds?
UOP-developed HiSiv adsorbents are superior in this application to typical
hydrophilic zeolites and molecular sieves that preferentially adsorb water
and therefore waste most of their capacity. HiSiv adsorbents are a unique line
of hydrophobic (organophilic) molecular sieves, specially designed to be effective
in high-humidity air vent streams.
UOP’s HiSiv line is the industry's proven adsorbent of choice for low
concentration VOC in abatement systems, where the robust inert nature of HiSiv
adsorbents offers added benefit of oxidative stability versus activated carbon.
HiSiv adsorbents are typically regenerated by using hot air (TSA - temperature
swing adsorption), or by varying the pressure (PSA - pressure swing adsorption).
VOC and HAP compounds present in the vent stream can include aromatic and aliphatic
hydrocarbons, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, amines, esters, and halogenated
hydrocarbons. HiSiv adsorbents' very low capacity for water and high adsorptivity
for hydrocarbons makes HiSiv adsorbents ideal materials for concentrators.
UOP's HiSiv line consists of both extrudate and powder forms, so that, as an
OEM, you can design your concentrator as either a fixed bed or as a rotating
wheel. You can also use HiSiv adsorbents for low concentration VOC/HAP emission
control, thereby enjoying excellent performance, as well as stability advantages
over other adsorbents. In addition, your capital costs can be reduced, since
smaller oxidizers are made possible (typically 90% smaller). Operating costs
can also be reduced by lower oxidizer fuel requirements, because VOC concentration
is typically increased by a factor of 10 before oxidation.
