Insulating Glass
If you’re involved in the manufacture of sealed insulating glass
for residential and commercial glazing applications, you know how important
it is to prevent fogging inside your window units and to halt permanent
staining of the glass. Fortunately, you can count on UOP’s line
of molecular sieves for effective ways to adsorb water or organic solvents
within your windows’ “dead air” space.
UOP has developed several high capacity MOLSIV adsorbent formulations to remove
and tightly trap water and solvents from this air space, thereby maximizing
the life of your units. We have beaded products for systems employing hollow
metal spacers, and powder forms where an organic matrix is used to create the
spacing between the glass surfaces.
When your products require both water and organic vapor removal, look to UOP’s
combinations of 3A and 13X molecular sieves for peak adsorption efficiency.
These combinations limit the potential for glass deflection (resulting from
adsorption of air or other gases filling the insulating space), which can lead
to increased unit stresses and loss of insulating properties. Our products
within this category include MOLSIV 3A and 13X activated powders, as well as
MOLSIV 4000 beads, a homogenous mixture of 3A and 13X.
If you manufacture solvent-free systems in which only water removal is required,
count on UOP’s 3A based products for superior water adsorption with the
lowest potential for glass deflection due to air adsorption. For this application,
your best options are MOLSIV 2000 and XL-8 beads, and 3A activated powder.
In addition to superior adsorbent products, UOP offers a comprehensive MOLSIV
Insulating Glass Engineering Services software program that allows you to evaluate
the cost, insulating properties, deflection and stress characteristics of IG
units for a wide range of unit designs, dimensions, gas filling options, exposure
conditions, etc.
UOP has a sound, smart solution for every type of insulating glass. To find
