Food / Beverage and Pharmaceutical Packaging

Whether you’re a food or beverage manufacturer seeking taste and odor control in your packaging, or a medical or pharmaceutical manufacturer seeking moisture control in your packaging, UOP adsorbents can help you get the job done right.

If you want to reduce organoleptic (taste and odor) problems in food and beverage packaging, UOP's ABSCENTS deodorizing powders are a proven, effective choice. ABSCENTS deodorizing powders are not masking agents. They physically adsorb odor-source molecules, and their incorporation into polymer structures can result in entrapping and rendering inoffensive odor and taste compounds that may have been generated from polymer oxidation, migration of external contaminants, or dissolution of additives. ABSCENTS deodorizing powders have been proven effective for their organoleptic properties in polyolefin extrusion pipe, injection and extrusion blow-molded containers, tie-layer and sealant polymers, extrusion coatings, and multilayered packaging.

If you’re concerned about desiccation problems, UOP’s MOLSIV powders should be your materials of choice. MOLSIV powders physically adsorb water molecules, reducing water concentration levels to less than 1 ppm in many applications. MOLSIV powders can be incorporated directly into plastics packaging, including rubber elastomers to protect moisture-sensitive contents such as medical and pharmaceutical products. This technology can be considered as a replacement for sachet type desiccating inserts with more automated methods to speed up production times. They are also ideal for packaging applications that go beyond the simple requirement of desiccating an enclosed volume to a level drier than the surrounding environment.
