Manufacturing Capability
UOP operates advanced manufacturing facilities at strategic
points around the globe. Our Hiratsuka plant, owned and operated
by a joint venture company, produces catalysts for environmental protection
and chemical process industries. All of UOP’s facilities are
available to the Specialty Products group for the manufacture of custom
products.
Our state-of-the-art analytical laboratories provide product analysis and characterization
at our Des Plaines, Illinois corporate offices, as well as at each of our major
manufacturing plants. All of these UOP plants are ISO 9001:2000 certified, with numerous
staff members certified as “Black Belts” in Six-Sigma methodology.
Mobile, Alabama, USA
This facility first began producing molecular sieves in 1965. In the 1970s,
the plant was expanded to include catalyst and zeolite production. Currently,
a manufacturing semi-works plant for small-scale production and R&D support
sits adjacent to the main plant.
Shreveport, Louisiana, USA
This catalyst manufacturing facility has been in operation since 1950. The
plant has the capability to manufacture a wide variety of oil-dropped spheres
and extruded alumina catalysts, with or without the impregnation of metals.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA
UOP acquired the Baton Rouge plant from LaRoche in 1999. Currently, both our
Versal product line and our activated aluminas are produced at this location.
Pilot plant facilities for new product development are located directly on
the premises.
McCook, Illinois, USA
Located in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, the McCook plant has been in operation
since the mid 1950s. Adjacent to the main manufacturing plant sit experimental
development facilities, which include both semi-works equipment and process
pilot plants.
Brimsdown, UK
This plant, located in the northeast suburbs of London, has been supplying
the European catalyst market since 1954.
Hiratsuka, Japan (Joint Venture)
The Hiratsuka plant has been supplying the Far Eastern catalyst market since
1954. Located some 40 miles southwest of Tokyo, the plant is owned and operated
by Nikki-Universal Co., a joint venture between UOP and JGC Corp. Adjacent
to the main plaint there is a separate catalyst R&D facility, which houses
both pilot plants and laboratories.
