Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB)
If you’re contemplating a new or revamped LAB complex, be sure
to choose the right technology partner: UOP.
For more than 30 years, UOP has been a leading innovator in the production
of LAB. During that time, we’ve developed the state-of-the-art technology
you’ll need to ensure that your new or revamped LAB complex operates
most efficiently and produces the highest quality product.
LAB is the primary raw material used in the production of linear
alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS). LAB is produced from benzene and long
chain normal paraffins. Normal paraffins are commonly derived from
kerosene using the Molex process.
UOP technology is a key element in the production of LAB. Almost all new LAB
complexes built in the last two decades have used UOP technology including
the Pacol process, PEP process, DeFine process and Detal process. UOP also
specializes in the development of the catalysts, adsorbents and equipment that
enable both new and existing operations to produce high quality LAB.
UOP offers a choice of catalysts and adsorbents for use in an LAB complex.
In the Pacol unit, we offer DeH-11 catalyst which offers excellent stability
and selectivity or DeH-201 catalyst which helps you maximize production of
LAB in your existing units.
DeFine units and PEP units perform best with H-14 catalyst and ADS-102 adsorbent.
For Detal units, we now offer DA-114 catalyst, a unique solid acid catalyst
created to replace the previously required liquid hydrofluoric acid catalyst.
