KLP Process
The KLP process plays a key role in helping petrochemical producers
worldwide meet increasing demands for butadiene. Butadiene is a major
petrochemical commodity used in the production of tires and other products
in the automobile and appliance industries. Polymer-grade butadiene
must be free of acetylenes, carbonyls, sulfur, and other heavy components.
The KLP process is the only truly selective hydrogenation technology
available for butadiene purification. The KLP process can provide you
with:
- Nearly 100% conversion of acetylenes
- Conversion of vinylacetylene into 1,3 butadiene
- Lower capital investment, reduced utility consumption, and simpler operation compared with traditional two-stage extractive distillation processes
- Improved safety in operations through elimination of concentrated acetylene streams
KLP-60 is UOP’s latest generation catalyst for the KLP process.
KLP-60 is a strong, attrition-resistant catalyst that can deliver a
high-quality butadiene product with less than 5 ppm acetylenes, compared
with more than 20 ppm with the traditional extractive distillation
process.
