Exploratory Research
UOP’s Exploratory Research is focused on developing novel technologies
both for new platform programs and for breakthrough technologies for
catalysts, processes, and products. Our Exploratory Research strategy
is to apply existing competencies to address new opportunities and
develop step-out technology.
Our exploratory research is focused in such areas as new catalyst, adsorbent,
chemistry, reactor design, process configuration, and separation technologies.
One current UOP research project is dedicated to the conversion of natural gas
to valuable chemicals and fuels.
UOP’s exploratory research process components include:
- identification of opportunities,
- development of strategy to overcome technical barriers,
- prioritization,
- laboratory experiments for proof of concept, and
- cooperative effort with the appropriate development group for commercialization of successful programs.
Throughout the process, we develop, add, or outsource appropriate
skills, competencies, and resources as needed.
