Advanced Characterization
Advanced Characterization is critical to both UOP technology development
and to the integration of materials, catalysts, adsorbents and process
technologies. UOP’s ability to identify and correlate critical
properties with performance enables our researchers to more rapidly
discover new product and process technologies that are both highly
selective and sustainable.
UOP’s world-class set of R&D tools are uniquely optimized and engineered
for examining molecular and long range structures, active site chemistry and
bonding, kinetics, molecular reactivity, absorption, and mechanisms. We also
use simultaneous in-situ spectroscopic methods and reactivity tests under realistic
conditions as critical predictive characterization tools. In addition, we employ
our well-established catalytic probe reactions in order to characterize the active
sites of our products.
By choosing the proper molecular feeds with the appropriate functional groups,
these tests provide information about the strength, type, and number of active
sites of various materials and properties such as acidity, metal activity, and
acid-metal balance. Such capabilities have proven instrumental in characterizing
the pore structure and active sites of newly discovered UOP materials, as well
as in screening materials for all stages of product commercialization. To find
