UOP Celebrates Commissioning of 200th CCR Platforming Process Unit

Sinopec Unit Marks Major Milestone for the Refining Process Technology

UOP recently celebrated the commissioning of the 200th CCR Platforming process unit.

The unit, put into operation at Sinopec Hainan Petrochemical Co.’s newest refinery in the Hainan Province of China, will allow Sinopec, the region’s largest producer and supplier of oil products and petrochemical products, to supply clean fuel and chemical feedstocks throughout China. The unit also will utilize UOP’s most advanced CCR reforming catalysts designed for high liquid and hydrogen yields, low coke production and maximum process unit profitability.

“We are proud to have reached this important milestone, and we will continue our drive to develop innovative processes and technologies,” said Norm Gilsdorf, senior vice president of UOP’s Process Technology & Equipment business unit. “We are equally as proud of our long partnership with Sinopec and our efforts to support tremendous growth in China.”

UOP’s CCR Platforming process is well known throughout the petroleum and petrochemical industries for the energy efficient production of aromatics and hydrogen from naphthenes and paraffins. First commercialized in 1971, UOP’s CCR Platforming process has been licensed in more than 27 units in China since 1985, representing more than 26 million metric tons a year of throughput in China.

In addition to CCR technology, UOP has licensed 12 aromatics complexes, two linear alkylbenzene (LAB) complexes and various petroleum refining technologies to Sinopec since the early 1980s.
