Gasification
Producing low sulfur synthesis gas at the lowest possible capital and operating costs is critical.
Working with a single technology provider to design and specify the entire gas purification block eliminates hand-off of documents, clarifications between technology providers, shortens the project schedule and ensures a smooth transition to steady state operation.

Extensive gas separation and purification process technologies produce clean syngas for a range of applications
The UOP Selexol™ process offers an economical way to treat synthetic gas from gasification complexes for power, hydrogen, SNG and chemical production.
As a proven commercial process, Selexol employs a physical solvent to remove acid gases from synthetic or natural gas streams. The solvent does not degrade, is non-toxic and environmentally benign.
The UOP Selexol process can also be used to remove and control mercaptan sulfur. The solvent will remove ammonia, metal carbonyls and other trace contaminants that may be found in synthesis gas streams. The process removes sulfur to very low levels and can be designed with a CO2 capture section added as a second phase “bolt on” project.
In the more than 30 years since its introduction, over 60 Selexol units have been put into commercial service.

Proven highly efficient technology to meet the sulfur removal demands of the power industry
Using moderate refrigeration of a polyglycol physical solvent, the UOP Selexol™ process has the added benefit of removing metal carbonyls, ammonia and other trace contaminants found in raw synthesis gas. With years of operating experience, this proven technology should be your first stop when looking to clean up syngas for power generation.
Carbon Capture and Sequestration
UOP offers a very attractive technology that can be incorporated into your power plant from the beginning, or added to an existing system at a later date. This new process technology has several benefits that allow addition of carbon capture and sequestration technology at little to no additional cost compared to a standard Selexol process offering.
Talk with our experienced engineers about the capabilities of UOP technologies for IGCC and carbon capture and sequestration.

Achieve ultra low sulfur specifications
Some applications require very low sulfur specifications in the treated synthesis gas and some customers wish to exceed the current purity requirements in anticipation of future environmental regulations. The UOP Selexol™ process can be designed to meet either of these goals – sometimes employing “add-on” equipment to address future concerns while reducing the cost of a current project that has a less stringent specification.
Let our design engineers work with you to produce a flow scheme that meets any specification while keeping capital and operating costs at economical levels.

Hydrogen purification technologies for petrochemical plants and refineries from a single provider
In gasification applications, UOP combines upstream contaminant removal using the UOP Selexol™ process with downstream hydrogen adjustment to produce whatever level of hydrogen purity is required for your project.
Many conversion processes need pure hydrogen. We have more than one solution. Using UOP technologies, syngas composition can be adjusted to produce a range of hydrogen purity. UOP offers Polybed™ Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) or PolySep™ membrane systems to deliver the hydrogen you need.
Working with a single technology provider to design and specify the entire gas purification block eliminates hand off of documents, clarifications between technology providers and shortens the project schedule. At start-up, you have a single provider of commissioning services across several technologies, ensuring a smooth transition to steady state operation. A one-stop-shop for engineering, guarantees and service also means your project comes in on schedule and within budget.
