Produce High-Quality Distillate Range Product

Distillate Hydrotreating

UOP is the world leading provider of distillate hydrotreating technology with more than 300 units licensed since the 1950s, including more than 50 units licensed in the last six years.

The UOP Distillate Unionfining™ process improves the quality of distillate boiling range feedstocks— kerosene, jet fuel, and diesel oils — to meet stringent fuel regulations.

 Our catalysts are used in conjunction with carefully selected processing conditions to achieve your sulfur and cetane requirements and desired improvements in product properties such as jet fuel smoke point, stability, color, odor and aromatics content.  Adding hydrogen to the feed while removing sulfur also enables higher yields. The product can be blended directly into fuel and can also facilitate the blending of other streams, depending on your processing objectives.

Integrate to upgrade difficult materials to on-spec product

Where integrated solutions are necessary to upgrade difficult, refractory, distillate-range materials to meet stringent aromatics requirements, cetane and cold-flow properties, the UOP MQD Unionfining process is the right solution.

The configuration and specific catalyst choice depend on your desired product quality improvement and on the existing refinery configuration. MQD Unionfining can use a single-stage configuration with most base-metal catalyst applications, or a two-stage scheme to achieve the highest cetane and lowest aromatic content diesel using a noble-metal catalyst in the second stage.  The two-stage MQD Unionfining process is integrated to minimize capital and operating costs without reducing on-stream efficiency and reliability.

Integrated lubes & fuels production

In July 2011, UOP and ExxonMobil Research & Engineering Company (EMRE) created an alliance to offer integrated solutions for the production of lube base oils and high-quality fuels. This effort brings together leading UOP hydroprocessing technology, catalysts and equipment with EMRE Hydroisomerization dewaxing technology and other EMRE hydroprocessing solutions to produce high yields of low sulfur, ultra-clean diesel with excellent cetane and cold flow properties and lube base oils. Meet Jet Fuel Specifications

To reduce acids and convert mercaptans to disulfides, the UOP Kero/Jet Fuel Sweetening Merox™ process uses a fixed-bed of catalyst, air, and caustic (NaOH) to sweeten your kerosene/jet feedstocks and produce on-spec jet fuel product.

Contained within the process technology are pre- and post-treatment sections to ensure that other fuel specifications, including Jet A-1 specifications, are met.

UOP also offers this process in a caustic-free version. A special high-activity catalyst and activator are used to facilitate the mercaptan sweetening reaction to take place in the presence of a weak base, ammonia. As well as being applied to new units, Caustic-Free Merox technology can readily be adapted to existing kerosene/jet fuel Caustic Merox units. This provides a solution for those refiners that struggle with the logistics and costs associated with the disposal of their spent naphthenic caustic stream.

This process offers impressive flexibility to treat kerosene derived from a wide range of crude sources.  Our Merox Plus Catalytic Activator can also be added to enable a refiner to extend the operating life of their unit until planned maintenance or turnaround event occurs.
