Maximize drier performance and isomerization catalyst life

Drier Regeneration Control

The gas/liquid molecular sieve driers, upstream of Butamer and/or Penex units, are critical for long chlorided alumina isomerization catalyst life. To address the importance of this upstream pretreatment step, UOP developed the Drier Regeneration Control System (DRCS), a proprietary control system for the automation of drier sequencing and regeneration. The DRCS ensures both regular and consistent regeneration of the drier vessel absorbent; prolonging absorbent life and protecting the catalyst.

The DRCS monitors and controls the solenoid valves, pressures, temperatures, flows, and levels to achieve proper regeneration. The DRCS also allows valves to be moved in manual modes for initial set-up and maintenance purposes.

Employing the experience gained from designing and manufacturing more than 200 proprietary control systems, UOP designed the DRCS with an architecture containing a microprocessor-based programmable electronic system (PES). The DRCS also provides the interface for two-way communication with the distributed control system (DCS). This allows operators to monitor and control the process from the DCS operator console(s). A local display (HMI) is also included to allow operation of the DRCS from the cabinet location. It also provides the capability to obtain information for system diagnostics and for process and controller troubleshooting.

Safe, Efficient Hydrocarbon Sampling

Closed Sampling Systems

The UOP Closed Sampling System provides petroleum refiners, chemical plants, and other processing facilities with a safe means of drawing representative samples directly from process streams. Designed to handle a wide variety of gases, toxic fluids, light and medium distillates, and high pressure liquids and gases, each Closed Sampling System is configured to match the operating parameters of individual applications. The integrity of the sample and the safety of the operator are utmost considerations in the design and fabrication of these units.

The system is available in flow-through to vent and flow-through to process plus vent configurations; and in either stainless steel or Monel construction. Samples are received in a 500 cc sample cylinder fitted with dual-sealing quick disconnect connections. The Closed Sampling System meets UOP Process specification 835.

The optional UOP Sample Cooler is a unique heat exchanger designed to be used in conjunction with the Closed Sample System for gases, toxic fluids, or high vapor pressure liquids. It is simple to operate, easy to clean/maintain, and provides a high degree of operator safety.

The benefits of UOP’s Closed Sampling System are:

  • High sample integrity – no loss of light ends or air ingress
  • Low maintenance – all welded valve manifold
  • One or two process connections – easy to install and minimum potential leak points
  • Safe design, requiring minimum operator time and training

Various options are available including Sample Unloading Station, electric, or steam heated, epoxy coated enclosure, mounting stand.
