Black Oil/Lubes
To help you meet your ever-changing refinery needs, UOP offers a host
of Black Oil technologies designed to upgrade low value crude residues
to higher value finished products, or upgrade intermediate refinery
streams used for downstream processing. UOP has been a leading inventor
in this area since the early days of petroleum industry, with the invention
of the Dubbs process in 1919.
Specifically, UOP offers three types of technologies for residue upgrading:
Thermal – The FWUSA/UOP Visbreaking process reduces the residue’s
viscosity and partially converts the residue to lighter hydrocarbons and coke.
Delayed Coking process completely converts the residues to gas oils, distillates,
lighter hydrocarbons, and coke.
Separation - UOP/FWUSA Solvent De-asphalting process separates the higher value liquid
product (DAO) using a light paraffinic solvent from low value asphaltene rich
pitch stream.
Residue Hydrotreating - Resid process, is processed under high temperature
and pressure using a robust catalyst to remove sulfur, metals, condensed aromatic,
or nitrogen, and increase the residue’s hydrogen content to a desired
degree.
There are several process configurations and catalyst options available in
this technology area. On the following pages you will be able to explore these
different solutions and services.
