Green Jet Fuel
UOP technology is helping to make green jet fuel from
second-generation feedstocks a viable source for commercial and military
flight applications.
Working under a $6.7 million contract from the U.S. Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA), UOP has developed technology to
produce green jet fuel. UOP's
technology produces a green jet fuel that meets key jet fuel
specifications including a freeze point at -47° and a flash point of
38°C - making it a promising fuel solution.
Green Jet Fuel:
• Requires no changes to the fuel infrastructure or fleet technology
• Meets or exceeds all critical flight specifications
• Utilizes non-food, second-generation feedstocks
• Is flight proven
Green Jet Fuel In Flight
UOP in partnership with Boeing, global airlines and key aircraft
original equipment manufacturers has executed biofuel demonstration
flights to showcase this exciting technology and collect the data needed
for aircraft certification.
Each flight used a 50/50 blend of green jet fuel made from
second-generation, non-food feedstocks with petroleum-based jet fuel.
The green jet fuel met or exceeded performance specifications and showed
to have higher energy density, which will allow aircraft to fly further
on less fuel.
