Challenge: Improve Efficiency with Low NOx Burners

Location: Europe

Situation: Retrofit old furnaces to improve efficiency and reduce NOx emissions for new stringent environmental requirements

Honeywell UOP Callidus® Solution: UOP conducted expert design studies, CFD modeling and pilot testing to identify the best solution for the customer. Callidus CUBL-F Low NOx burners were selected due to:

  • Low risk based on proven performance
  • High confidence in flame stability
  • High turndown
  • Low burner count, one burner type for ease of maintenance and spare parts
  • Remotely adjustable firing profile

Results: The project was completed on schedule and on budget. Based on CFD modeling and optimization, the new Callidus CUBL-F Low-NOx burners:

  • Decreased NOx by 50%
  • Significantly increased turndown from 2:1 to 10:1
  • Reduced noise
  • Lowered burner count from 96 to 36
  • Improved radiant box efficiency
